The philosophy is based on a belief in ancestral spirits . Both men and women can be called by the ancestors (a consequence of refusing the calling is usually ongoing physical or mental illness). A trainee sangoma (or twaza) trains under another sangoma, usually for a period of years, usually performing humbling service in the community. At times in the training, and for the graduation, a ritual sacrifice of an animal is performed (usually a chicken , a goat or a cow ). The spilling of this blood is meant to seal the bond between the ancestors and the sangoma Sangomas in Africa are the traditional healers in the Zulu, Swazi, Xhosa, Sotho, Tswana, Venda and Tsongo/Shangaan traditions in southern Africa. They perform a holistic and symbolic form of healing, embedded in the beliefs of their culture that ancestors in the afterlife guide and protect the living. Sangomas are called to heal, and through them ancestors from the spirit world can give instruction and advice to heal illness, social disharmony and spiritual difficulties. Sangomas have many different social and political roles in the community: divination , healing , directing rituals , finding lost cattle, protecting warriors, counteracting witches , and narrating the history, cosmology, and myths of their tradition. They are highly revered and respected in their society, where illness is thought to be caused by witchcraft , pollution (contact with impure objects or occurrences) or by the ancestors themselves, either malevolently, or through neglect if they are not respected, or to show an individual her calling to be a Sangoma. For harmony between the living and the dead, vital for a trouble-free life, the ancestors must be shown respect through ritual and animal sacrifice. A Sangoma is called to heal by an initiation illness, often psychosis , headache , intractable stomach pain, shoulder or neck complaints. She will undergo Thwasa , a period of training including learning humility to the ancestors, purification through steaming, washing in the blood of sacrificed animals, and the use of Muti , medicines with spiritual significance. At the end of Thwasa, a goat is sacrificed to call to the ancestors and appease them. Sangomas are steeped in ritual. They work in a sacred healing hut or Ndumba, where their ancestors reside. They have specific coloured cloths to wear to please each ancestor, and often wear the gallbladder of the goat sacrificed at their graduation ceremony in their hair. They summon the ancestors by burning a plant called Imphepho , dancing, chanting, and most importantly playing drums . Sangomas are able to access advice and guidance from the ancestors for their patients in three ways: possession by an ancestor, or channelling ; throwing bones; and interpreting dreams . In possession states the Sangoma works herself into a trance, through drumming, dancing and chanting, and allows her ego to step aside so an ancestor possesses her body and communicates directly with the patient, providing specific information about his problems. It can be very dramatic, with the Sangoma speaking in tongues, or foreign languages according to the specific ancestor, or dancing fervently beyond her normal ability. Accessing the ancestors' advice through the bones is an alternative to the exhausting possession states. The Sangoma possesses a collection of small bones and other small objects like seeds, shells etc, each with a specific significance to human life. For example a hyena bone signifies a thief and will provide information about stolen objects. The Sangoma or the patient throws the bones but the ancestors control how they lie, and the Sangoma then interprets this metaphor in relation to the patient's life. In the same way, Sangomas will interpret the metaphors present in dreams, either their own or patients'. Sangomas will give their patients Muti, medications of plant and animal origin imbued with spiritual significance, often with powerful symbolism - lion fat is given to promote courage. There are medicines for everything from physical and mental illness, social disharmony and spiritual difficulties to potions for love and luck. Muti can be drunk, smoked, inhaled, used for washing, smeared on the body, given as enemas , or rubbed into an incision. Sangomas function as the social workers and psychologists in their community. They know the local dynamics and can counsel appropriately with this background knowledge. (1). The formal health sector has shown continued interest in the role of sangomas and the efficacy of their herbal remedies. Western-style scientists continue to study the ingredients of traditional medicines in use by sangomas. Public health specialists are now enlisting sangomas in the fight against the spread of HIV / AIDS (2) . In the past decade, the role of all types of traditional healers have become important in the fighting the impact of the virus and treating people infected with the virus before they advance to a point where they require (or can obtain) anti-retroviral drugs. Sangomas far outnumber western-style doctors in Southern Africa, and are consulted first (or exclusively) by approximately 80% of the indigenous population. Whilst for many they provide the healing needed, there are some causes for concern. Charlatans who haven't undergone Thwasa charge exorbitant prices for fraudulent service, and not all countries in southern Africa have effective regulatory bodies to prevent this practice. Some Sangomas have been known to abuse the charismatic power they have over their patients by sexually assaulting them, sometimes dressed up as ritual. Repeated use of the same razor blade to make incisions for Muti carries HIV transmission risks in regions where the disease is rife. Western-style doctors have seen a number of cases of patients with serious gastrointestinal problems through the use of Muti, especially in enema form, and have even coined the phrase 'ritual enema induced colitis'. Zulu children may have up to three enemas a week (Wikipedia.org)
Satan: In the Judeo-Christian tradition, Satan from the Hebrew word for 'adversary' is the personification of evil and all that is hostile to God and his will.In the Septuagint (Greek translation of the Hebrew Bible) the translation of 'satan' is given as 'diabolos' meaning 'devil' Both terms are usually employed synonymously. In the Old Testament Satan is presented as a distinct personality of darkness and accusation, a type of heavenly prosecutor In the New Testament, he is described as the one who has the power of death, rules with lies and deception, accuses humankind before God, and opposes the purpose of God in the world. In later Christian tradition Satan was described as a fallen angel and Christianity has always regarded Hell, the region of fiery torment below the earth, as Satan's realm Many other cultures outside the Hebrew tradition have a concept of a leader of the powers of darkness. The Babylonians, Chaldeans and Persians believed in a dualism between the forces of darkness and light.Ahriman, in Zoroastrianism, and Seth, the god of evil en Egyptian mythology and 'Mara' in Buddhism manifest characteristics similar to Satan's Satanism: The worship of Satan. It involves Black Magic, sorcery and the Invocation of demons and the forces of darkness, who propitiated by blood sacrifices and similar rites. In Christian cultures these ceremonies include the Black Mass, a mockery of the Christian rite.Medieval Christian writers tended to label any dualist sect,(such as the Bongomils and Albigensians) as Satanist From the later Middle Ages, Satanism and witchcraft were considered as synonymous. There was a Satanist revival in the late 19th century and evidence exists that the cult persits.Satanists or Luciferians, believe that Satan is the power behind the processes of nature. In the past they were sometimes called 'circles' - because participants - called 'sitters' sat around a table (or on chairs arranged in a circle) in order to link hands, in the belief that boosted the Psychic forces that encourage paranormal manifestations. Generally Seances involve a medium who enters a trance-like state and contacts a 'spirit friend' or 'spirit helper'. The spirit then communicats with the gathering though the medium, either mentally or directy using the medium's vocal chords. In the nineteenth century, Seances were dominated by Phsyical manifesations, such as Rappings,Stange smells,Levitation and Materialisation, most episodes of which were eventually exposed as having been fraudulent.Because of these fraudulent associations, the term 'Seance' has fallen into disease and modern Psychic researchers and mediums use the term 'Sitting'

Blavatsky claimed she had received much of this doctrine at the feet of Tibetan lamas and while it was for some time fashionable to cast doubt on the claim, the increasing accessiblity of Tibetan Buddhist doctrines has shown some remarkable similarities Sedna (Inuit & Eskimo - Deity): Also known as Ai-willi-ay-o,Nerivik.Various legends say that Sedna fell (or was thrown) off her parent's boat and that dismembered parts of her body formed sea lions and other sea creatures.Sedna considered the Creator goddess of all inhabitants of the sea, the Ultimate sea goddess.Sedna will grant wishes to those who go to the sea and who ask her lovingly, honestly and gently for favours.Since she is so connected with water and dolphins, Sedan also helps with intuition and brings messages about dolphins into one's dreamtime. She helps with Abundance, especially with food supply, Animal rights, especially relating to water-based animalsm fish and birds, Dolphins & Whales, Dreams & intuition,The granting of wishes when you are in the ocean, the healing of Hands & fingers, dispelling Hurricanes.Ocean conversation, Protecting while swimming, surfing or sailing Self-actualization: A central concept of humanistic psychology formulated by Abraham Maslow.Self-actualization is a fundamental human need and means discovering one's authentic self and authentic life Serapis Bey (Egypt,Greece & New Age - Deity): Also known as Serapis, Apis, Asar-Apis, Osiris-Apis.Originally an Egyptian god of the underworld named Seerapis who was in charge of the ascension at Luxor, Egypt, In New Age circles he's now known as Serapis Bey.He motivates people toward physical fitness and healthy lifestyles due to his interest in beauty and aesthetics, he also helps them withstand the coming changes that are prophised.Like a spiritual fitness guru, he inspires, motivates, and provides hope for the future.Serapis Bey also helps artists and musicians with their creative projects. An extremely loving ascendend matser, he's actively involved in averting war and bringing peace to Earth. He helps with overcoming Addictions & cravings,Artists, musicians & creative endeavors,Ascension,Clear communication with God, Exercise & weight-loss motivation,Peace, personal & global,Prophecy Servants of the Light: When in the early 1960's, the Society of the inner Light moved away somewhat from its original role as a Golden Dawn-style organization to the practise of ritual magic, a number of members, unhappy with the development, voted with their feet and left to futher the cause of the Western Esoteric Tradition in their own way.Among them were W.E.Butler, and Basil Wilby (Gareth Knight), two skilled occultists with a sound grounding in the Qabalah and ritual magic Fearing that developments within the Society of the Inner Light might mean that newcomers to esoteric though could have difficulty finding a source of purely magical training, they collaborated on creating a correspondence course on the subject. The course was known as The Helios Course in Practical Qabalah. It was out of this course that the more formalized structures of the Servants of the Light eventually grew In establishing SOL, W.E.Butler was guided by an inner Plane Adept, he referred to in his book as a 'Master of Magic'.On Butler's death, this contact was passd on to his successor as head of the organization, Dolores Ashcroft-Nowicki.Today the Servants of the Light continue to function as an esoteric school within the Western Esoteric Traditon offering supervised training in Qabalistically-based magic. The training, at its more advanced levels, makes considerable use of Pathworking techniques and is linked with the Matter of Britain through its use of symbolism drawn from the Arthurian Mythos Seth: Seth is the spirit entity who was channelled through Jane Roberts and has become probably the best known and most widely published in the twentieth century. From 1963, until her death in 1984, channelling the 'Seth material' was at the centre of Jane Roberts's life. She produced a whole body of literature including 'The Seth Material - Prentice-Hall 1970).The main message of the material is that we each created our own reality through our beliefs and desires Shakespeare William (1564-1616): The frequency of occult events in Shakespeare's plays can be put down to the intense interest that such matters had for enquiring Tudor minds, of which his was merely one of the most brilliant. The Renaissance was revealed much of old pagan lore at this time, whilst Medieval attitudes and practices were still commonplace throughout the countryside. The witches of Macbeth, the ghost in Hamlet, the woodland fairies of A Midsummer Night's Dream, all were things that even Shakespeare's sophisticated London and court audiences could still half-believed in. The thoughts and vocabulary of occultism were obviously familiar to Shakespeare, but just as they would have been to any interested man of the world
The word Shaman comes from Siberia and its origins lie in words meaning 'to become excited'.Shamans were perhaps the first people to seek to penetrate and interpret the secret currents of life. The essence of Shamanism was to be able to enter a state of trance in which this communication with natural powers could be experienced. It is a magical vocation, but also requires long and arduos preparation. In past times, Shamans would put themselves to great physical suffering in order to steel and accustom their bodies to a wide range of experiences In the 'trance state' they might walk through a fire or on pointed sticks, they had to be impervious to pain, heat and cold. Rhythmic drumming & dancing, chanting, fasting, drugs, sweat lodges and vision quests were the methods of achieving the trance-state.In trance, the Shaman's spirit left his body and travelled to lower or upper worlds to meet godlike beings from whom he would receive knowledge. There are similarities in technques whether used by indigenous peoples in Australia, the Amazon or Eastern Europe There is much about basic Shamanism that is primitive and ignorant, inevitably so as it is so ancient in tradition. But is has become of great interest in recent times, partly through Syncretism, and partly through the feeling that its simplicity of approach, its closeness to nature, has much to teach the complex modern mind Shambhala: An ancient Tibetan banner shows the mysterious lost land of Shambhala, as an oasis surrounded by snow-capped hills.Legend describes it as a hidden paradise. The records of early Buddhism suggested it was the source of esoteric wisdom.Myths of China, Russia, Tibet and even Greece and Rome insist it is the home of superhuman being, rather like Blavatsky's Hidden Masters. It is described as a country of valleys surrounded by high mountains where hot springs nourish a rich vegetation which inclued many rare plants and medicinal herbs. But if there is widespread mythic agreement about the existence of Shambhala, there is considerably less of a consensus on where it is and how to get there The Theosophists favour the Gobi Desert. The Chinese think it may be in the Kun Lun Mountains.Middle Eastern and Greek sources favour Altaic Mountains.According to certain Taosit sects it is hidden somewhere between Szechwan & Tibet.A Hungarian source locates it precisely between Latitudes 40M to 50N beyond the Syr Daria River.Russian legend claims it lies in the Belovodye white waters region and in 1923 and expedition set off across the Kokushi Mountains to find it, and never returned + The fate of the expedition would not, perhaps have surprised the ancient Tibetan abbot who wrote the Red Path to Shambhala. In the workd he claimed the entrance to the lost land lay in Mongolia, but only those properly prepaired spiritually could find it. The abbot was not the only one to believe there was a non-physical aspect to Shambhala. In 1928, the traveller Nicholas Roerich, was told bluntly by another lama that Shambhala had 'nothing to do with our Earth' but existed on another dimension altogether, possibly referring to the Bardo level or Astral plane Despite thee pointers to an inward Shambhala, rumours of its physical existence still persit. There are claims of underground tunnesl linking it with the Potala Palace in Lhasa, while other tunnel routes are claimed to be found in Turfan and Turkestan. The same Nicholas Roerich who was told of Shambhala's Astral location met up with a mysterious lama on the road between Darjeeling and Ghum and was subsequently told by Ghum monks that this lama was from Shambhala. There is even a flying saucer (UFO) connection. Both Roerich and the British mountianeer Frank Smythe saw UFO's over locations traditionally associated with the lost paradise Shape-Shifting: The ability to take on a markedly different phsyical appearance.Sometimes it is done at will, somtimes unconsciously Space-Cleairng: Clearing negative energy out of a specific place, such as a home, office, room, temple, backyard or front yard Spirit Releasement: Cleaing negative energy out of a person or animal's body and Aura
Shroud of Turin: An ancient strip of linen bearing bloodstains and the brownish image of a bearded man, which was believed by many people to be the actual B urial Cloth of Jesus Christ. The shroud 4,34 metres long and 1.09 metres wide, can be traced through documentation back to 1354, but its history before that date is obscure. Since 1578 it has been preserved and venerated in St John's Cathedral in Turin.Photographed for the first time in 1898, the image on the shroud - of the front and back of a crucified man about 2 metres (6 feet tall), was revealed to be negative rather than positive.Details of the Biblical account of Christ's burial, specifically the anointing of the body, conflict with the natural possibility of an imprint such as that on the Shroud of Turin, and Vatican-sponsored carbon-dating tests conducted in 1988 indicated that the shroud itself dates no earlier that 1260 Simon Magus: A magicain of Samaria in the first century AD.He became famous for his sorceries, but was converted to Christianity by Saint Philip, although later he tried to purchase the power of the Holy Spirit from the Apostles Peter & John Sitting: Also referred to as a Seance or Circle. A gathering of people for the purpose of investigating or expriencing super-normal or psychic phenomena.
Solomon (Judeo-Christian - Ascended Master): Also known as King Solomon.Solomon was the king of Israel, following his father, King David's reign in the 900 BC era. In light of King David's intensity, Solomon was viewed as a gentle and wise man who blended alchemy and Judaic mysticism with commom sense and wisdom.Solomon was instrumntal in manay of Israel's advances in government and architecture. Most notable is Solomon's overseeing of the construction of the Temple of God, in which the Ark of the Covenatn was housed. The book of 1 Kings in the Bible , makes reference to Solomon's remarkable wisdom 'Solomon's wisdom surpassed the wisdom of all the sons of the east and all the wisdom of Egypt. For he was wiser that all men'References in the Torah, Gospels and ancient Judiac texts refer to Solomon;s exorcism and magical skills.A 15th century Greek manuscript called 'The Testament of Solomon' describe him using a magical ring (known as Solomon's Ring) that has a Star of David engraved on top.Scholars point out that the 6pointed star was originally associated wiht cabalism, high magic, and Pythagorean mysticism .Solomon may have been instrumental in making it a symbol of Israel & Juadaism. The Testament of Solomon also contains one of the numerous accounts of Solomon controlling demons, both to banish them and to control them as 'spiritual slaves' to perform magical duties.Solomon has ascended to such a high level that you may not feel his presence when you call upon him.Instead, your higher consciousness will tap in to his collective wisdom. He's wise, old sage similar to the God archetype who sees all and knows all, and he already knows who you are, what your Divine assignment is, and how you can do things better and more efficiently. He helps with Cabalistic understanding, Divine magic, Joy, Manifestion,Space clearing, Spirit releasement, Wisdom & understanding Speaking in Tongues: Also known as Glossolalia or the Gift of Tongues: A Christian religious phenomenon in which the believer, in an ecstatic state, speaks in a foreign language or utters unintelligible sounds that are taken to contain a divine message. Many Christians believe the genuine gift of tongues to have been confined to earliest Christianity and first came to the apostels at Pentecost, or the celebratrion seven weeks after Passover. Classical Pentecostal Christians see speaking in tongues as a definite sign of Baptism by the Holy Spirit.Other groups that advocate glossolalia are the Shakers, Quakers and Latter-day Saints, or Mormons. Early Methodists spoke in tongues, as did some Presbyterians during the 1830's. During the Shaker's wave of spirits. Since these languages were unintelligible to mortals, the songs were learned phonetically. Modern charismatics, such as the Pentacostalists and charismatics, maintain that the worshipper may or may not speak in tongues following the conversion experience.Like the gifts of healing, wisdom, Prophecy, miracles and Spirit Divination, the ability to speak in tongues is not given to everyone. Many psychologists explain the phenomenon as a hypnotic trance that results from religious excitement
Spiritualism: A system of religious beliefs centred on the assumption that communication with the dead, or spirits, is possible.Spiritualism as a movement began in the United States in 1848, with the activities of Margaret Fox and to a lesser extent, her two sisters, of Hydesville - New York. The Fox-sisters were able to produce Spirit rappings in answer to questions put to them. After moving to Rochester, New York State and receiving a wider audience through a series of increasingly elaborate public seances, their fame spread to both sides of the Atlanctic Ocean.By the mid 1850's they had inspired a host of imitators, and spiritualism claimed two million followers.Margaret Fox admitted later in life that she had produced rapping noises through manipulation of her joints The repertoire of the early mediums included table Levitations, ESP,Speaking in a spirit's voice during trances, Automatic writing, and the manifestation of Apparitions and ectoplasm. All such phenomena were attributed by the mediums to the agency of spirits.Early supporters of the Spiritual Phenomena included the American journalist Horace Greeley (1811-1872) and the British author Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.Support for spiritualism diminished, however, as many 19th century mediums proved to be fakes Spiritualism has had, since its inception, a large following. Many churches and societies have been founded that profess some variety of spiritual-istic beliefs. It achieved particularly widespread popular appeal during the 1850's an 1860's and immediately following World War I Closely aligned with other New Age Beliefs, belief in spiritualism again became popular during the 1980's, particularly in the United States. One new facet of Spiritualism is that modern-day channellers or mediums are as apt to attempt contact with spirits from ancient mythical societies & extraterrestrials, as they are to try to communicate with the recently deceased Sri Satya Sai Baba: A Sri Satya Sai Baba, who claims to be a reincarnation of the first Sai Baba, is one of the best- known gurus in India today. At his ashram, at Prasanthi Nilayam, he conducts darshans and materializes sacred ash. He has an enormous following Steiner, Rudolf (1861-1925): Austrian philosopher, scientist, artist and educator who was the originator of the social philosophy called Anthroposophy.A Christianised version of Theosophy, this doctrine asserts that humans possess a faculty of Spiritual cognition, or pure thought, that functions independently of the senses.Anthroposopy strives for the most effective development of this faculty.Steiner founded the Anthroposophical Society in 1912 and it has now branches throughout the world and is especially popular in Britain He travelled extensively in Europe, lecturing on Spiritual Science, the arts, social sciences, religion, education, agriculture and health. His published over 350 works, including collections of lectures, books, articles, reviews and dramas. His occult philosophy is outlined in key titles such as 'Knowledge of the Higher Worlds and It's Attaiment 1904-1905 and 'An Outline of Occult Science -1909'. His teachings inspired the development of the Waldorf School movement and of schools for handicapped or maladjusted children. His agricultural methods for preparing soil inspired chemical -free organic farming and gardening. He created eurythmy (expressive movement to music and speech) and his guidelines on holistic medicine and pharmacology are still widely respected Stigmata: Bleeding marks resembling the wounds suffered by Jesus Christ when He was crucified. They are manifested on the hands, on the feet, near the heart, and on the head and shoulders. The Stigmata are not usual bodily lacerations (the blood appears to discharge through the unbroken skin), do not deteriorate in the usual fashion of wounds and are not susceptible to medical treatment.Francis of Assisi, (later Saint Francis) was the first an best-known Stigmatic In September 1224, he reportedly began to bleed from his palms and feet after meditating on the crurcifixion of Christ.More than 330 cases are known of Christians who have been Stigmatised.Stigmatics are deeply pious, and the Stigmata often appear after lengthy meditations on the crucifixion or contemplation of a sacred image or object.Bleeding is also likely to occur during the traditional times of commemoration of Christ's passion- Fridays,Lent and especially Good Friday. In many cases it can be explained by natural causes such as the physical and psychic conditions of the person, along with a strong interest in and devotion to the sufferings of Christ. In a number of cases, however, Stigmatisation has been accepted by the Roman Catholic Church as attributable only to supernatural causes, 60 Stigmatics who lives, have been marked by great Holiness - and mystical experiences have been either canonised or beatified Stonehenge: The most famous prehistoric megalith (standing-stone monument) in Europe.Located 13km north of Salisbury in Wiltshire, England.Excavations and radiocarbon dating have revealed that Stonehenge had an exceptionally long history of use as a ceremonial or religious centre or both.It was constructd in 3 major phases over the period from around 3500 BC to 1100 BC.It originally began as a circular ditch including a bank with a ring of 56 burial pits, named 'Aubrey holes' for their 17th century discoverer, John Aubrey (1626-1697).Around 2100 BC, a double circle of bluestone menhirs (large rough-hewn standing stones) thought to have come from the Preseli Mountains of southwestern Wales, was erected within the earliest ring. In the final stage of construction, from around 2000 BC, a circle of about 30 upright stones (made from local sandstone- called sarsen) were set up, their tips linked by lintel stones to form a continious circle about 30 metres across. At a later date, around 1550 BC, the bluestones were finally rearranged in the circle and horseshoe shape whose remains survive today Stonehenge is unique because of its long period of use and the precision of its plan and its architectural details. The traditional thesis that Stonehenge was a Druid temple is untenable, because the Druids did not appear in Britain until a few hundred years before the Christian era.In recent years many attempts have been made to interpret Stonehenge as a prehistoric astronomical observatory or some form of solar temple. All that can be said with confidence - is that from around 2000 BC onwards, the structure's axis of symmetry pointed roughly in the direction of the sunrise at the summer solstice Subud: Muhammad Subuh, the founder of Subud, was born in Indonesia in 1901.Subud is a synthesis of Sufi,Hindu and Indonesian spiritual ideas. The workd Subud is an abbreviation of three Sanskrit words: Sushila - right living in accordance with the will of God, Budhi-the inner spiritual force, Dharma-surrender to God
Sulis (British - Deity): TAlso known as Sul, Sulla. Sulevia, Sulivia. An ancient goddess of healing waters, who'se shrine was at the Bath spa in southern England.Suli's name means 'eye' and 'seeing'.So it makes sense that she helps with physical and psychic vision. The eye is also associated with the sun, so Sulis, is known as a sun goddess, which is rare, as male deities are usually sun gods, while female deities have moon and star connections. This solar association may stem from Sulu's relationship with hot springs.Sulis oversees all pools of water associated with healing, especially natural hot springs.Today in bath, people come from all over the world to drink from her well in the center of the hot spring's restaurant. The water is rich with sulphur, and is said to function as a fountain of youth. She helps with Blessings,Clairvoyance,Eyesight, physical & spiritual,Gardening, Water used in ceremonies, and Wishes Sun Bear: One of the most famous contemporary Native American teachers, Sun Bear is a Chippewa medicine man and serves as leader of the Bear Tribe Medicine Society located near Spokane, Wahington.A teacher, lecturer and editor of the magazine 'Many Smokes', Sun Bear sees his mission in life as teaching others how to find and follow their own paths of power and how to live responsibly on the Earth as they help to heal it.In his book, 'The Path of Power' Prentice-Hall 1988, he describes his personal path of power and shares his vision of peace and unity for the whole Earth. He has also published 'Sun Bear's Book of the Vision Quest' Prentice Hall 1988 and 'The Medicine Wheel: Earth Astrology' Prentice-Hall 1980) Suzuki D.T: Perhaps the best known authority on Zen Buddhism in the 20th century, Daisetz T. Suzuki was also arguably the least obscure and most readable. Born in 1870, he obtained impeccable scholarly credentials, but his interest in Zen was far from academic since he claimed he himself had achieved 'sarori', the ultimate Zen enlightenment, through a sudden leap 'from finity to infinity'.Dr Suzuki brought Zen to the West single-handed.He died in 1966, but his numerous books, still stand among the best introductions to Zen Buddhism availble in English Suzuki, Shunryu: Already a deeply-respected Zen master in Japan, Suzuki-roshi arrived in America in 1958, finally making his home in San Francisco and establishing the Zen Centre. He was undoubtedly one of the most influential Zen teachers of his time. His one and only book 'Mind, Beginner's Mind'-Weatherhill 1970, is one of the most often recommended books on the practise of Zen.Suzuki-roshi died in 1971 Swastika: An ancient symbol of good fortune. The word has Sanskrit roots, meaning 'good luck' and it its a symbol found in a number of Indo-European cultures.Originially a Sun symbol, it became the sign of Thor's hammer in the Runic alphabet. In German it was known as the Hakenkreuz, or crooked cross. Its Nordic association made it of interest to the likes of the Thule Society, who introduced it to the Nazi movement. But is position was reversed, so that it direction, instead of being clockwise, was anti-clockwise - the direction of unreason and chaos Swedenborg, Emanuel (1688-1772): Swedish Scientist, Theosophist and Mystic, a pioneer in both scientific, religious and spiritual thought. For most of his life Swedenborg pursued a conventional, albeit brilliant, career.Educated at Uppsala University, he first became a natural Scientist and official with the Swedish Royal College of Mines (1710-1945), concentrating on research and theory. His foremost scientific writing is Opera Philosophica et Menralia (Philosophical and Mineralogical Works), (three volumes, 1734), a unique combination of Metaphysical, Cosmology and Science.A first-rate Scientific Theorist and Inventor, Swedenborg, in some of his insights, anticipated scientific progress by more than a century Visited by a mystic illimination in 1745, Swedenborg claimed a direct vision of a Spiritual World underlying the Natural Sphere. He began having dreams, ecstatic visions, trances and mystical illusions in which he communicated with Jesus Christ and God and was granted a view of the order of the Universe that was radically different from the teachings of the Christian church. He resigned his job to concentrate full-time on his ecstatic visions and to transcribe the knowledge imparted to him from the Spiritual World. His voluminous works from this period are presented as divinely revealed Biblical interpreations. In his system, best reflected in Divine Love & Wisdom-1763, Swedenborg, conceived of three spheres:divine mind, spiritual world and natural world. Each corresponds to a degree of being in God and in humankind: love, wisdom and use (end, cause and effect.Through devotion to each degree, unification with it takes place and a person obtains his or her destiny, which is union with creator and creation Unlike many mystics, Swedenborg proposed an approach to Spiritual reality and God through, rather than in rejection of material nature. His twelve-volume compendium. The Heavenly Arcana (1747-1956) represents a unique synthesis between modern science and religion. In response to a vision of the ' last judgement' and the 'return of Christ', Swedenborg proclaimed the advent of the New Church an idea that found social expression in the Swedenborgain Societies and in the foundation of the Church of the New Jerusalem in England in 1778 and in the United States in 1792.Many of his views were adobted by 19th century Spiritualism, and many of his ideas were also disseminated in the works of writers and poets such as William Blake, Samuel Taylor Coleridge and Henry James Sylph: The spirit being associated with the element of Air, usually represented as small, semi-translucent winged creatures Synchronicity: This is when more than one thing happens at the same time. Another term or close relative for Coincidence is 'Synchronicity'. This is the term Carl Jung used to describe two seemingly separate incidences that turn out to be related. Basically, Synchronicity is an especially meaningful Coincidence. It is a clear sign of the truth, that the universe God created, isn't random and chaotic, but ordered and perfect and patterened. We discover throughout our life that we have all sorts of connections to other people and things that previously seemed unrelated. How many times in your life, have you come across coincidences? How many times have you bumped into somebody that you hadn't seen in a long time, and had just been thinking about? Sometimes things happen in your life that seem to be connected, but which you've simply put down to 'Coincidence' Syncretism: The process by which systems of belief, which once were separate and which arise from different sources, begin to blend and to take elements from one another. This is particularly marked in modern occultism, although it has always been a feature, since practitioners have always been interested in what they could discern about other teachings. The development of mass global travel and of electronic media has accentuated this trend to the point where many occult processes are combined. The same person may use the Tarot and the American Indian Medicine wheel or combine Kabbalistic and Tibetan means of divination. This potentially confusing procedure is justified by the underlying resemblances of all occult studies. They share the same intention, which is of seeking harmony with the invisible and not fully understood forces that rule the Cosmos Synergism: This is when your power joins with the power of others for the highest good, you can create a phenomenon called synergism, which with God's blessing is one of the greatest sources of magic and miracles on earth. An excellent example of Synergism / Synenergy, is chain prayers. But don't get the idea that synergism counts only if it has a specifically religious purpose. The highest good has any number of forms of expression, from the founders of charities to human and animal rights organizations e.g Alcoholics and Narcotics Anonymous and Al-Anon
