Pantheism: The belief that everything is God, and that God is in everything and everyone Paracelsus (1493-1541): The name coined for himself by the German physician and alchemist Theophrastus Bombastus von Hohenheim, who was born in Einsieden, Switzerland.Paracelsus was a medical reformer who introduced a new concept of disease and the use of chemical medicines. He studied at several Italian universities and began to practise medicine an sugery in the 1520's.He created controversy because of his wholesale condemnation of tradition science & medicine. He never obtained a secure academic position or permanent employment. His new concept of disease emphasised its cause to be external agents that attack the body, contrary to the traditional idea of disease as an internal upset of the balance of the body's humours (yellow & black bile, blood & phlegm). Therapy, according to Paracelsus, was to be advocated the use of chemicals rather than herbs, and alchemy became the means of preparing such chemicals. In this way Paracelsus changed the emphasis of the alchemical art from chasing the elusive elixir of life, or Philospher's Stone, to making medicines
The British Society for Psychical Research, founded in 1882, and the American Society for Psychical Research founded in 1885, both sought to establish whether mediums who conducted spiritualistic seances actually contacted the dead or were merely fakes. Much of the earlier evidence cited by psychical societies and others for the existence of psychic phenomena was highly unscientific and anecdotal in nature. They included reports of premonitions and dreams, newspaper stories of spiritualistic levitation, written accounsts of ghost sightings and so on More scientifically rigorous investigation using controlled laboratory experiments began in America in 1927, pioneerd by the psychologist J.B.Rhine of Duke University in North Carolina.Rhine eventually split with the university psychology department and was allowed to form the first parapsychological laboratory in the country in 1935.Although Rhine was not the first worker in the field to use statistical methods in his investigations, his methodology was regarded as more rigorous and sophisticated than those of earlier invesigators.Test subjects were ordinary people, mostly volunteers not mediums Rhine would seat the test subject in one building and the experimenter in another. The experimenter would shuffle a deck of Zenner cards - specially designed ESP testing deck, each card having one of five boldly printed symbols - star, square, circle, plus sign an three wavy water lines. Then the experimenter would draw a card and place it face down on the table. After a minute the experimenter would repeat the procedure. The subject, who had earlier synchronised watches with the experimenter, would try to guess, minute by minute, which card was lying on the table.Hundreds, and sometimes thousands of trials would be made and the result tabulated. Rhine's claims of statistically significant results were controversial, and the experiments often proved unrepeatable of results being a benchmark of scientific validity.Nevertheless, Rhine's groundbreaking experiments stimulated others to develop more sophisitcated testing procedures,, and many of the researchers he trained are still active in the field today, mainly in the U.S. & Britain . In the 1960's and 1970's interest focused on the Psychological processes involved in PSI, with researchers attempting to uncover qualitative information about the psychological state of subjects who supposedly perform well on ESP & PK tests. They claimed that subjects who believe in Parapsychological Phenomena tend to do better on the tests, as do subjects who are given immediate feedback after each guess.Work has also been performed on subjects in 'Altered States' of consciousness, such as under hypnosis or under the influence of drugs or in a sensory-deprivation condition called the 'Ganzfeld Stimulation'.Other research has focused on the phenomena of Remoter viewing, the perception of distant objects clairvoyantly or by Out-of-Body travel Most scientists outside the Parapsychological field do not accept the existence of Psychic Phenomena, although some universities teach Parapsychology courses and in 1985 a chair of Parapsychology was established at Edinburgh University funded in part by a bequest from the author Arthur Koestler (1905-1983) Passing Bell : The name given to the bell that is rung in church when a person is near to death. It is said to have the effect of frightening away the evil spirits that are ready to take the soul as it passes from the body.In the Medieval period, bells were sometimes rung to destroy witches, as it was supposed that the sound of bells threw the moff their night flight and rendered their diabolic magic ineffective
Patanjali: An Indian sage of the third century BC, noted as author of the Yoga Aphorisms, a series of sutras on which almost the whole body of Indian Yoga is now based.Patanjali is not, however, regarded as the founder of Yoga, which was practised in his homeland for almost 1,000 years before he was born, but rather as is codifier. As such he has been of considerable influence, since entire Yoga sub-systems have evolved from a single verse- somtimes even a single word, take from this Aphorisms Pathworking: Guided Imagery. The foremost modern exponent of the art, Dolores Ashcroft-Nowicki, has defined pathworking as a journey between this side of the mental worlds and the other side - which offers a path, a map through the landscapes of the mind. Pathworking are doorwalys between the known and the physical and the unknown and the non-corporeal. They accomplish their work through the medium of the creative imagination. It can and do casue actual physical effects in the everyday world Although the term 'pathworking' is derived from Qabalistic practice, the technique itself is not specifically Qabalistic and appears under a variety of names, ancient and modern, including 'guided meditation' / active imagination / thought building / and even fantasy role play- FRP. When used as esoteric tools, such workings serve a variety of puposes, from initiation to the channelling of power. Some make use of visual symbols, others rely on detailed verbal instructions to paint pictures in the mind Pathworking are not new. They were used in early Egypt and Sumer, the first known human civilization, and are believed to have formed an important part of Chaldean star magic. But while hints and aspects of pathworking leaked out to some degree from age to age, a full esoteric exposition remained the exclusive progative of initiate occultists until the early 1980's when Dolores Ashcroft-Nowicki decided to go public with the technique Her first book on the subject was 'The Shining Paths-The Aquarian Press 1983', a collection of verbal parthworkings centred on the Qabalistic Tree of LIfe. Four years later, she was in print again with 'Highways of the Mind-The Aquarian Press 1987', an even more detailed exposition of the art and one which contains a fascinating history of its development Peak Experience: A moment of intense feeling when we are in touch with the whole Universe.Communing with Nature, sex,a religious ritual or listening to mucic can give rise to a peak experience.Abraham Maslow, studied peak experiences and believed that they are within the reach of all of us Pele (Hawaiian - Deity): Also known as Ka-'ula-o-ke-ahi or Redness of the Fire.Pele is the fire goddess who rules Hawaii's volcanos and takes various forms: a young, beautiful woman, a wizened crone, a dog, and a flame. In the Hawaiian islands, Pele is highly respected as a powerful deity..Many legends surround Pele's origination.A common theme is Pele's sibling rivalry with her older sister, Hiiaka, goddess of the ocean. When Pele decided to use her firepower to bring land up from the sea to create new islands, her sister battled her.Hiiaka poured water onto Pele's beloved lava, and steam from the two warring sisters poured out of the volcanoes Other tales are of Pele's tragic love affairs with mortals and gods. The lava is said to be Pele's hair and tears from her anguish over her love life. It's been said that taking lava rocks from Hawaiian islands will result in Pele's wrath.Supposedly, many tourists have mailed back lava to the islands to undo bad-luck streaks that occured after bringing the lava home.Pele is said to be a powerful yet trustworthy goddess who helps one to tap into one's passions and true heart's desires. She helps with Empowerment,Energy,Goal-setting and goal-getting,Honest communication in relationships, Passion & Prioritizing
The archaeologist T.C.Lethbridge, believed differing lengths of string produced pendulums specifically 'stuned' to various substances and even to emotional states. One of the most peculiar usages of the pendulum is in map dowsing, where water courses, minerals and even archaelogical finds can be pinpointed by the behaviour of the instrument when held over a map of an area.During the Second World War, a Pendulum Institute in Berlin sought to determine the location of Allied convoys by pendulum downsing sea charts. The information was then passed on to U-boat commanders Pentagram: A five-pointed star shape, used in the Invocation of spirits. This shape ws believed to have magical properties. The spirit summoned, however potent, could not go beyond the bounds of the Pentagram
The ritual itself is actually a composite, incorporating a sub-ritual called the Ritual of the Qabalistic Cross. It acts rather like the Astral equivalent of disinfectant in an operating theatre and is designed to clear the atmosphere before magical operations are carried out. When this is done, it acts as a barrier against all Astral intrusions until the next sunset or sunrise. The ritual can also be used to seal an individual's Aura temporarily, to guard against energy loss or repulse Psychic Attack Penry-Evans, Violet Mary: Also known as Dion Fortune Perennial Philosophy: The idea that underlying all the great religious traditions runs an Essential Truth- there is one Divine Reality which cannot be direclty and immediately understood, except through the practise of love i.e by a mind in a state of detachment, charity and humility.Aldous Huxley's classic work 'The Perennial Philosophy' was published in 1946 Perls, Fritz: Born in Germany in 1893 and trained as a Psychiatrist before the Second World War, Fritz Perls became internationally renowned at Esalen for Gestalt Therapy, which he developed with Paul and Laura Goodman in the mid 1950's Philosophers's Stone: The name given in Alchemy to a stone, powder or substance that will transmute base metals into gold Phobia: An anxiety disorder that is usually a fear of certain situations or specific objects Pho-wa: The art of 'leaving the body' as known in Tibet Pisces: The 12th sign of the Zodiac. 19 February - 20 March.Origin & glyph:There are numerous links between the two fishes and various deities from history, including Jesus Christ. The glyph represents two fish, linked but also refers to the physical & spiritual side of a person.Ruling Plantets & grouping:Neptune, feminine, mutable & water.Associated colour-Sea Green,Flowers-Water Lily,Gemstone-Moonstone,Trees-Willow,Food-Exsesses should be avoided, salad foods are very suitable Planchette: An instument designed for use in a Seance. It is a sort of mounted pencil on castors, which permits the hand to rest yet move freely to the supposed direction of the Spirit control as in Automatic Writing and drawing. It is said to have been invented by a French Spiritualist name Planchette in 1853 Planets: The 5 planets known at the time, plus the Sun an Moon - were known to theancient world as the moving stars and their movement were carefully checked and forcast by civilisastions as remote from each other as the Chaldeans in the Middle East and the Maya in Central America. Their movement gave the planets a special significance, and they were from a very ancient time assigned correspondences with metals, colours, which relate to ritual practices. For the Sun-Gold & Yellow, Moon-Silver & White,Mercury-Quicksilver & Grey,Venus-Cooper & Green,Mars-Iron & Red,Jupiter-Tin & Blue,Saturn-Lead & Black
Polytheism: The belief in, and worship of, many gods, instead of a single Creator Poltergeist: Derives from the German word that refers to Noisy ghost. The poltergeist phenomena, is representative of spectacular & noisy, usually lacking any visual element, and while certainly frightening, usually harmless.Poltergeists present a pattern of behaviour that is typically mischievouse rather than evil.Windows and ornaments may be broken, but people are seldom actually injured or even hurt.A haunting often gives the impression of a house occupied by an invisible, but hyperactive child. This pattern, coupled with the observation that poltergeist will often haunt people, rather than places, has led some investigators to conclude that the noisy ghost is not a ghost at all, but rather an externalization of Psychic energy from the subconscious of someone in the house- usually an emotionally repressed child or adolescent The term compounded from the 'German poltern 'to knock' & geist 'spirit', is applied to a variety of invisible entities that manifest themselves in an unruly and disturbing manner, often involiving unexplained noises, the moving or throwing of objects, vile smells or strange shrieks, as well as curious phenomena as Apports. While some occurance may appear to involve actual spirtis or ghosts, the disturbances may also derive from subconscious Psychokinesis on the part of an individual Poltergeist phenomena have been reported around the world throughout history. Before the 19th century, these occurances were blamed on the devil, demons and witches. In the 1930's the Psychologist and Psychic researcher Nandor Fodor, suggested the theory that poltergeist disturbances were caused not by spirits - but by individuals suffering intense repressed anger, sexual frustration and hostility. This Psychological Dysfunction Theory - has been supported by other research indicating that in a significant number of reported disturbances, the agent was a child, or teenager possibly unconsciously unleashing hostility without fear of punishment.A high proportion of poltergeist activity happens when a pubescent girl is present.Psycholigical profiles of agents show that mental & emotional stess, personality disorders, phobias, obsessive behaviour and schizophrenia are linked to supposed poltergeist phenomena, and in some cases Psychotherapy has eliminated the poltergeist disturbances This theory has gained widespread acceptance among Psychical researchers, but some New Age investigatiors are moving towards the conclusion that it may not fit all the facts and a Spirit hypothesis cannot, after all, be ruled out in certain cases Poppet: A curse doll, a figurine of the human form made from wax or clay and placed somewhere close to the person whom it threatens, usually with a curse inscription attached Possession: A condition in which a person is believed to be under the control of an external force, such as a deity, demon or another distinct personality.Apart from possession by the Holy Spirit, Christianity regards possession as the work of the devil. In Medieval theology, Satan entered the victim directly or by using an intermediatery such as a witch or wizard, causing the victim to act abominably and renounce God. According to demonological literature, sometimes the voice of the possessed person changed and sometimes even his or her features. The body might be thrown into convulsions, and strange objects and even creatures were said to passed from the orifices. The cure for possession by evil spirits is Exorcism In Judaism, the most feared and evil possession is by the Dybbuk, a doomed soul that wreaks mental and spiritual havoc on the hapless victim. In many non-Weseren cultures, communication with, and voluntary possession by, various deities is central to religious worship.Similarly in Christianity, voluntary possessio by the Holy Spirit is encouraged, especially in the Penatcostal movement, whose adherents may speak in tonques, perform faith healing and writhe uncontrolably in a form of ecstatic communion with God
Pribram, Karl: According to a Stanfore Neuroscientist, Pribram, the brain in many wasy resembles a Hologram Prigogine, Ilya: Belgian chemist and winner of the 1977 Nobel Prize in chemistry for his Theory of Dissipative Structures Pricking: During the witchcraft craze of the 16-17th centuries, self-appointed witchfinders would search out suspects and prick malformations on their bodies, such as warts and birthmarks, with needles or other sharp objects. It was widely believed that witches did not feel pain when such a malformation was pricked, and it was for this reson that pricking was regarded as a relaible indication of their true nature. However, it was reccognised even in the heyday of the witch hunts that many of the witchfinders were dishonest, and in his sceptical treatise on witchcraft 'The Discoverie of Witchcraft-1584), Reginal Scot reproduced pictures of a special trick pricking knife used by some of the witchfinders, the blade of which would slide into the handle. With the aid of this trick knife the witchfinder could appear to stick the knife into the flesh of the subject and when he or she showed no sign of distess, pronounce him or her to be a witch
Projection: Out-of-Body experiences (OOBE) Prophecy: A divinely inspired vision or revelation of the future , usually of important events on a grand scale.Religious prophets ae men or women divinely chosen to preach the divine message, such as Jesus and Mohammed. The ancient Greeks & Romans revered Oracles, whose pronouncements were treated as unchangeable. The ancient Hebrews had many prophers, 18 of the 39 books of the Old Testament being ascribed to prophets. In Islam, Mohammed is the Seal of the Prophets, the last of all prophets for the rest of history.Ordinary people with Psychic gifts have also been called prophets. In the 16th centuary Nostradamus believedhis visions were inspired by God
New Age occultists accept the reality of Psychic attack and while admitting that suggestion may in certain instances play (a small) part in it, insist the true technique operates via the Astral Plane Psychic Criminology: The use of Psychics in the investigation of civil and criminal cases and in jury selection. This controversial technique has grown in the decades following World War II as a result of the publicised successes of various celebrity Psychics. The primary technique is Psychometry, the handling of objects, such as discarded weapons or the belongings of victims, and sensing their 'vibrations' which can provide information to help solve the crime.Throughout history seers and dowsers have been sought out to help locate missing persons and to solve crimes.Psychic detection ws used in Europe during and after World War I In 1925 Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, creator of Sherlock Holmes, predicted that the detectives of the future would be Clairvoyants or would make use of Clairvoyants.By the latter part of the 20th century, hundreds of Psychics were working regularly with police in the United States,Britain & Europe, although their success rate was erratic.Police departments remain divided over the effectiveness of Psychics. Some make regular use of selected individuals and have established written procedures for doing so.Others feel Psychics make no difference in solving cases.Departments that do use Psychics often are reluctant to admit it publicly
Psychic Reading: A session with a Psychic or Medium in which Psychic ability is used to answer a client's questions. Most people seek Psychic readings for information about the future, communication with departed loved ones, and divination for finding missing persons and objects.Such services have been rendered by Psychically gifted people since ancient times A typical reading lasts for thirty to sixty minutes.Fees vary from voluntary contributions to a nominal sum to high professonal rates charged by famous Psychics. The methods used in Psychic Readings vary, the most popular being Tarot, Numerology, Psychometry, Palmistry and Channelling.Another widely used method is Scrying, in which the Psychic gazes into a crystal, a mirror or other reflective surface or into a flame Psychic Research: Although investigation of Psychical Phenomena has been carried out for centuries, systematic, structured scientific research really only dates back to the foundation in Britain of the Society for Psychical Research in 1882.An American Society, based on the same stated principles, came into being shortly afterwards At the time these Societies opened, the Spiritualist movement was at its peak so that it was perhaps understandable that early investigations concentrated almost exclusively on Mediumship and Seance Room Phenomena. With a decline in public interest in Spiritualism following the First World War, mediums by and large, failed abysmally to predict the outbreak of hostilities and many had reassued clients that all would be sweetness and light despite a manifestly threatening political situation, psychical research began gradually to broaden its field of interest In the late 1930's Dr J.B Rhine of Duke University in North Carolina added a new dimension to the research by developing methods by which statistical analysis could be applied to psychical talents like Telepathy,Precognition or Psyschokinesis. The statistical approach tended to dominate professional psychical research over the next two or three decades and continues to dominate it today, although to a much lesser extent But this relates only to the Western situation. In the Soviet Union, where scientific interest in the psychic survived even Stalinism, the emphasis has always been much more on qualititative research than statistical analysis or the production of phenomena under laboratory conditions As a result, it became widely acknowledged in the sixties and seventies that the Soviets led the world in their understanding of such oddities as dermo-optic vision (eyeless sight), bio-plasmic energies and the whole gamut of PSI abilities from Telepathy to Prophecy.Inspired by the paradigm shift of the New Age, Western scientists began to narrow the gap in the eighties Psychical Research, Society for: The Society for Psychical Research was founded in 18882 by a small, distinguished group of Cambridge scholars interested in Paranormal phenomena and determined that it should be investigated in an unbiased, scientific manner. It proved a remarkably successful move, for in the century or so of its existence, the society has attracted some of the finest minds in Britain.Past Presidents include philosophers C.D.Broad and Henri Bergson, Prime Minister A.J.Balfour, the psychologist William James and Nobel Prize-winning Physiologist Charles Richet
Psychic Surgery: The alledged performing of paranormal surgery with bare hands, in which the body is opened and closed without use or benefit of surgical instruments.Often performed in a trance state, sometimes without touching the physical body, but more dramatically by Psychic surgeons in the Philippines and Brazil involving phsyical operations followed by immediate healing of the wound. Patients remain fully conscious and allegely experience no pain. While some observed surgeries remain unexplained, many have been exposed as fraud, accomplished by sleight-of-hand tricks known to most stage magicians.Psychic surgery received much Western media attention in the 1960's & 1970's prompting thousands of sufferers to seek treatment in the Philippines & Brazil, where Psychic surgery was easily available Psychodrama: Psycodrama was developed by Jacob Moreno in Vienna in the 1920's an 30's.He set up a Psychodrama School in New York, but it was not until the 1960's an 70's that Moreno's work was taken up and finally used more extensively.Moreno believed that we tend to adopt rigid roles and act them out.In Psychodrama and make-believe, situations are used to free spontaneous expression
In the 1970's the Israeli Psychic Uri Geller, dazzled TV audiences with his alleged powers of bending metal with a few gentle strokes or taps with his fingers. In Britain, the most spectacular Psyhokinetic experimentation has been carried out in a group context by Kenneth Bacheldor and his followers. Most scientists deny the existence of Psychokinesis and the difficulty in reproducting Psychokinetic Phenomena and the lack of an adequate theoretical explanation excludes it from systematic scientific investigation
Psychotronic Generators: A whole new branch of science has been under development for two decades or more behind the Iron Curtian. The science is the science of Psychotronics, new discoveries based on very ancient ideas that the essential shape of certain objects can, in certain circimstances, make use of a hitherto unrecognized type of energy Czech scientists are to the forefront of this New Age Research. When the American writers Sheila Ostrander and Lynn Schroeder visited Czeshoslovakia in the 1960's, they were in their own words, confronted with a gallery of objects burnished and gleaming, rough and pebbled, steel, bronze, iron, copper, gold Psychotronic generators that do the impossible Later they saw them demonstrated in a film shown at the International Parapsychology Conference in Moscow.Conference scientists explained taht human beings, in commmon with all living things, were filled with a bio-energy, the Czechs had chosen to call Psychotronic.Psychotronic generators drew on this energy, accumulated it and finally put it to use.The modern inventtor of the Psychotronic generator Robert Pavlita, has demonstated a variety of applications from turning a small blade to removing water pollutants But the most striking usage has undoubteldly been the generator constructed to read minds As describe by Ostrander & Schroeder, this device has a rotating pointer on top with ESP pack.As she does so, the dial on the generator slowly turns to point to the particular symbol that is the object of the concentration.Czech scientists claim the machine demonstates 100 per cent accuracy
Pyramid Power: It is alledged that the polyhedral geometry of the pyramid generates supernatural powers. In 1959 a Czech radio engineer, Karl Drbal, claimed that razor blades placed in the cavity of a pyramid modelled on the dimensions of the Great Pyramid (Cheops) of Giza in Egypt would be mysteriously sharpened within twenty-four hours.Soon afterwards people were advancing the efficacy of Pyramids for nurturing plants, healing wounds, curing headaches and aiding meditation An explosion of interest soon led to a host of investigations into and not a few published books about what quickly came to be called 'pyramid power'.Although patent protection requires no theoretical explanation of why an invention works, it would appear that the fundamental shape of the pyramid generates a hitherto unsuspected energy which affects blades. The molecular structure of the edge is crystalline in nature and is susceptible to quite subtle influence.(Polarized light, e.g moonlight is enough to dull a razor's edge over a a period of a few hours) Whatever energy or energies exist within a pyramidal structure, they also appear capable of dehydrating and preserving organic matter, a process of mummification, in fact, made all the more interesting by the ancient Egyptian fascination with death. But as the interest in pyramid power began to snowball, claims for the phenomena it was supposed to generate became wider and wider. At the height of the fad, pyramids were sold as mediation aids, generators of visionary experience, anti-biotic machines, wound healers, boosters of immune system and vehicles of mystical illumination.Pyramidal cloches were supposed to make plants grow better.Pyramidal tents were used to communicate with the spirits of the dead Despite understandable cynicism about the claims, it seem seems beyond doubt that some curious phenomena are associated with the pyramid shape, and in particular the Pyramid shape which is a scale of the Great Pyramid of Cheops Pythagoras (fl.6th Century BC): Greek philosopher and mathematician who was born on the Greek island of Samos around 570 BC and is most famous to the lay public for his famous theorem and other geometrical and mathematical achievements.Pythagoras has had a profound effect on occultism. He was sent early to Egypt and then spent ten years in Babylon, learning the arcane knowledge that both these cultures had to offer. He lived for thirty years in Greek city of Crotona in Southern Italy, where many young men came to his Philosophical school. An early syncretist, he drew on his knowledge of the Eastern & Greek traditions and his own extraordinary facility with Numbers to elaborate a vision of universal harmony based on numbers. He discovered the harmonic scale in music.Pythagoras did not see the world as disorderly or a place of hidden mysteries.Like other men of exceptional intellect and impact on their generation, a host of legends have gathered about his name.He was said to be able to call eagles down from the sky, and to have made a visit to the Underworld Q
The Kabbalah is very old, dating back to at least the first century AD, and much of its knowledge was passed on orally within the priesthood or within groups of the priesthood. The major written texts date from the 12th & 13th centuries. The classic document of the Kabbalistic tradition - the Zohar (Book of Light), was compiled by Moses de Leon about 1290.The doctrine of creation was build on a theory of emanations and asserted that the world derived from transcendent and unknowable God through a series of increasingly material manifestations (Sephirot) The Sephirot form the central image of Kabbalistic meditation, the Sephirothic Tree of Life, which describes the path of descent from the divine to the material realm and the path of ascent to the highest level of attainment in knowledge, corresponding to energy centres in the body, and is also divided into four interlocking sections or 'Worlds' which constitute the cosmos: Emanation (Atziluth), Creation (Briah), Formation (Yetzirah) and Action or Making (Assiyah).Through contemplation and meditation, similar to Eastern yogic disciplines, the Kabbalist ascends the Tree of Life The Serhirot, also comprise the sacred, unknowable and unspeakable personal name of God: YHVH (Yahweh), the Tetragrammaton. So Sacred is the Tetragrammaton that other names, such as Elohim, Jehovah, are substituted in its place in scripture. A more systematic presentation of the basic doctrine is contained in Moses Cordovero's Pardes rimmonim (Gardern of Pomegranates -1548). Kabbalah, was a major influence in the development of Hasidism and still has adherents among Hasidic Jews. The Kabbalah, with its amulets, incantions, demonolgy, seals and letters and number mysticism, had a profound influence on Western magical tradition. The Tetragrammaton especially was held in great awe for its power over all things in the Universe, including demons Qabalist: The New Age Qabalist is an individual, who may or may not be Jewish , trained in a practical system of magic based largely but by no means exclusively on traditional Hebrew Qabalistic doctrines about the Tree of Life Quintessence: In occultism, this is the luminous 5th element (invisible to ordinary sight), which was seen as binding together in union or pact the other four elements (Earth,Air,Fire,Water). In Alchemy the term was usually synonymous with Elixir
