Labyrinths: A labyrinth is an archetype (from the Latin: archetype, meaning an original pattern) with which we can have a direct experience. It is an ancient symbol that relates to wholeness, combining the imagery of the circle and the spiral, into a purposeful path. Walking the Labyrinth has long been used as a Meditational & Prayer Tool. It is a metaphor of life's journey, a pattern that creates a symbolic space. Concentrating on the path is an 'action-meditation' allowing us to focus on the moment. At the center one reaches a place for reflection. It is also a mandala - a schematized representation of the cosmos characterized by a concentric organization of geometric shapes. A labyrinth is a Right Brain Task. It involves intuition, creativity, and imagery.Labyrinths are different from mazes. They are unicursal. They have one well-defined path that leads us into the center and back out again. There are no tricks to it, no dead ends or cul-de-sacs, no intersecting paths Lakshmi (Buddhist,Hindu,Indian & Jain Deity): Also known as Haripriya,Jaganmatri, Laxmi, Matrirupa, Vriddhi.Lakshimi's name is derived from the Sanskrit word - Laksya, which means 'goal' or 'aim.Lakshmi is a beautiful,golden-skinned moon goddess of prosperity and good forutune who brings blessings of abundcane to everyone.Lakshmi also represents beauty, purity, generosity and true happiness. It is said that she sprang forth from the churning ocean bearing gifts and lotus flowers, looking so beautiful that all of the gods immediately wanted her as their wife. She chose to be with the sun god, Vishnu. She was thereafter reborn as Vishnu's companion in each of his lives.Because Lakshmi's true mission is to bring eternal happiness to Earth, she helps us find meaningful careers that bring about handsome rewards, including personal fulfillment. She knows that wealth, in and of itself ,isn't enough to create lasting happiness- it must be accompanied by spirituality and a feeling of occomplishment. So Lakshmi may lead us to our life's work, which will create joy and abundance for ourselves and others.Lakshmi is associated with lotus flowers Some legends say that she was born from and lives in one of these blossoms. In artwork, she's usually depicted carrying, or stading upon, a lotus flower, which is a symbol of spiritual awakening & peace. A man who greatly enjoyed travel, he visited Ceylon, the U.S. and Australia where he founded a Theosophical commune. In India, helping to establish the society's headquarters of Adyar, he concluded with Mrs Annie Besant that a 15 year old Brahim boy, Jiddu Krishnamurti, was the next World Teacher and actually became the boy's adoptive father.Leadbeater was a founder member of the Liberal Catholic Church - an instituion which continues to flourish in the New Age - and became its second Bishop. He claimed, almost certainly with some justification to be a Psychic with the ability to see Auras, and other inner structures of reality, including Nature Spirits and similar entities. Many of his books, notabley Man, Visisble, and Invisible and The Chakras, remain well worth reading. On work, The Science of the Sacraments, describes the inner workings of the magical Mass and is still in use in the Liberal Catholic Church Leek, Sybil: Although born in England in 1923, Sybil Leek has been resident in the U.S since she has attracted widespread media attention on account of her practice of witchcraft.Ms Leek has never been coy about this practice. She has written several books including Diary of a Witch And Cast your Own Spell, taken part in numerous radio programmes on witchcraft and even opened her own witchy restaurant 'Sybil Leek's Lethbridge. T.C. A When Tom C.Lethbridge, a powerfully-built Cambridge don, retired to Devon at the age of 56, he left behind a busy, distinguished and somewhat controversial career in Archaelogy which included many years as Honorary Keeper of Anglo-Saxon Antiquities in the University Museum of Archaeology and Ethnology. He might have been forgiven for hoping for a rest. But if so, he did not get it.He was introduced by a neighbour to Astral Projection and 'throwing pentagrams'.Most important of all, she reawakened his interest in Dowsing by means of a Pendulum At the time Lethbridge moved to Devon in 1957, most Pendulum dowsers used a heavy weight and a short string so their instruments would not blow about in the wind, but Lethbridge had the idea that it might be interesting to find out whether Pendulums of different lengths would react to different things. To test his theory, he made a long pendulum using a ball of hazelwood, and wrapped the string around a pencil so that the lenght could easily be varied. He concluded that a 22-inch long pendulum was 'tuned' to the wave-length' of silver Over a long series of experiments, he discovered lenghts for a wide variety of different things.Cooper was 30 inches, grass 16 inches, apples 18 inches and so on.He even discovered it was possible to tune the pendulum to abstract emotions - like anger - simply by visualizing them clearly.By the time his experiments were finished, Tom Lethbridge was convinced he had made a fundamental discovery about Pendulum dowsing. He wrote a number of books in which he gave the precise Pendulum lengths for various substances, but subsequent investigations have strongly suggested that the lengths are not absolutes, but need to be varied in relation to the individual who is using the pendulum. In other words, dowsing Pendulums need to be individually tuned Alongside dowsing, Lethbridge had a considerable interest in Ghosts. His investigations in this field convinced him that many apparitions were not spirits of the dead, but natural 'recordings' somehow impressed on their surroundings and 'replayed' when conditions were suibable.Noting that ghost sightings were often associated with damp and dismal places, he posutlated that the recording might be a field phenomenon generated in the presence of water. He coinded a special usage of the word 'ghoul' to desbrive ' cold spots' and other areas associated with hauntings in which witnesses felt uncomfortable Lemniscate: An occult symbol, a figure of eight laid on its side which is used as a reference for eternity Lemuria: A legendary lost continent of the Indian Ocean, said to be the original Garden of Eden - and the cradle of the human race. The theory of the existence of Lemuria arose in the 19th century, when natural scientists sought to explain Darwin's theory of evolution of similar species from a common ancestor. It was suggested that a land bridge once existed during the Eocene Age from the Malay Archipelago to the south coast of Asia and Madagascar, thus connecting India to Southern Africa. The theory explained why such animals as the lemur are found primarily on Madagascar and in parts of Africa, but also in Inia an the Malay Archipelago - hence 'Lemuria'. Occultists applied the term to an ancient continent which was the main centre of activity in the early history of humanity Madame Helena P. Blavatsky, cofounder of Theosophy, believed that Lemuria had been inhabited by the Third Root Race of humankind, whom she described as 4,57 metres tall, brown-skinned hermaphrodites with four arms, some had a third eye in the back of the skull.Their bizarre feet, with protruding heels, enabled them to walk either forwards or backwards. their eyes were set far apart in their flat paces so that they could see sideways. They had highly developed psychic powers and communicated by telepathy.Their continent, which covered most of the southern hemisphere, broke up and was destroyed, only fragments were left, such as modern Madagascar, the Seychelles, Easter Island and Australia The Lemurians migrated to Atlantis, where they evolved into the Fourth Root Race. Like the Lemurians, the Atlanteans field the destruction of their own continent , spreading to other lands and starting the present Fifth Root Race. Philopher and occultist Rudolf Steiner, using information he said cam from the Akashic Records, said Lemuria extended from Ceylon to Madagascar and had included parts of Madagascar and had included parts of Southern Asia & Africa. He also described the Lemurians as the telepathic Third Root Race, who initially had no memory. The goal of Lemurians was to develop will and clairvoyant power of imagination in order to control the forces of nature. Lemuria was destroyed by volcanic activity Leo: The fifth sign of the Zodiac. 23July -23 August.Origin & Glyph: It probably originated in ancient Egypt, from the constellation, the Glyph resembles the Lion's tail.Ruling Planet & Grouping: Sun, masculine, fixed fire.Associate Colour: Gold & Scarlet, Flowers: Marigold,Sunflower, Gemstone:Ruby,Trees:Citrus, Walnut, Olive,Food: honey & cereals, most meat s & rice
Leviathan: The word 'Leviathan' in Hebrew means approximately 'that which gathers itself into folds' or 'that which is drawn out'. There is much confusion about the translation of the word in its Bibllical context, but it seems to refer to some huge animal, almost certainly linked with water. Some translators think the word might refer to a crocodile, others that it is a whale or even a large ship. The Leviathan of the English poet William Blake (1757-1827) was a coiled sea serpent Levitation: Ability to defy gravity.Levitation of objects or the self. Levitation is a phenomenon of Psychokinesis (PK), in which objects, people, animals and to on - rise into the air without known physical means and float or fly about.Levitation are said to occur in mediumship, mystical trance, magic, bewitchhment, hauntings and possession.Christianity and Islam record numerous cases of levitation. It is also recorded in Hinduism and Buddhism, and the Ninja warriors of Japan also reportedly had this ability During the Middle Ages and Renaissance, it was common to blame any unusual phenomena upon witchcraft, fairies, ghosts or demons. Levitation was and still is, commonly reported in demonic possession cases. Similarly, poltergeist cases and hauntings are sometimes characterised by levitation. At the height of Spiritualims in the late 19th century, certain mediums were famous for their alleged levitations.Daniel Douglas Home reportedly did so many times over forty years.Although he was never exposed as a fraud, many other mediums were discovered to 'levitate' objects with hidden wires and contraptions.According to sceptics most levitations may be explaned by hallucination, hypnosis or fraud Levitation should properly be divided into two catergories 1. The levitation of objects, animate and inanimate & 2. Self levitation. The first of these categories is closely associated with psychokinesis(PK) and has been the object of extensive investigation since Victorian times, with considerable evidence for its reality, even under stringent test conditions Self levitation, associated with the ecstatic experience of saints, is rather more controversial, although there is a vast body of an investigation into self levitation is currently being carried out by the Transcendental Meditation movement, which claims to be able to train its adepts in the art of and has issued photographs of cheerful, cross-legged meditators apparently floating a foot or more above the floor. Some observers remain unconvinced, claiming that the technique is closer to hopping than levitation
Watkins theorized that leys were remnants of ancient roads mainly associated with the salt trade. He argued that in heavily wooded country, workable routes would have to be charted from hilltop to hilltop and marked in the valleys with standing stones, mounds, crosses or what have you. Surprisingly, Watkins' innocent suggestion, which he expounded at length in his book 'The Old Straight Track-1925', provoked a violent reaction in the archaeological establishment In the late 1930's Major F.C.Tyler, had noted that leys often consisted of two parallel tracks. If they marked prehistoric roads, why should the old travellers have felt the need of two, both going in the same direction? And when ley-hunting moved out of the countryside and onto the Ordnance Survey map, it soon became evident that the old straight leys often combined to form exact geometric figures. Larger-scale maps soon showed that certain major British 'leys' actually carried across onto the continent of Europe. Whatever the lines were, it was very evident they were not roads The author John Michell, pointed out the close similarities between the ley lines of Europe and the 'lung mei'or 'dragon paths of China - which were supposed to carry mystical energy to the Emperor. This energy was compared to the flow of 'chi' - the Universal Life Force identified in ancient Chinese philosophy.Closer to home, other investigators were discovering for themsleves that there was a definte energy aspect to certain ancient sites. The physicists Professor John Taylor & Dr Eduardo Balinovski of London Univesity, used a 'gaussmeter' on a South Wales megalith and found it surrounded by a 'spiroform magnetic field' phenomenon Points where the ley energy paths intersect are said to be prone to anomalies such as earth Lights and poltergeist phenomena and reported sighting s of UFO's - one theory suggests that the paths are naviagational aids to extraterrestrial spacecraft Libra: The 7th sign of the Zodiac. 23 September - 23 October.Origin & Glyph: The element of the scales may have several origins, possibly from their use in weighing harvests, the glyph is similar to a yoke;Ruling Planet & Grouping: Venus, masculine, cardinal & air.Associated Colour-Blues & Pinks. Lucifer: In demonology Lucifer is the celestial being wrongly equated with Satan - probably of a misreading of Isaiah 14:12. The general view, adopted in the literary tradition, is that Satan was called Lucifer before the Fall from Heaven. At all events, the name has been adopted in esoteric circles to present the modern equivalent of the being of the Sun (orininally named Ormuzd in the Zoroastrian dualism) opposed by the darkness, the Prince of Lies, who was called Angra Mainyu, in occultism called Ahriman Lugh (Celtic Deity): Also known as Lug, Lugus, Lleu.
