THE BARDO This is the state what the ancient Tibetans referred to as the 'BARDO' Bar meaning 'between' and Do meaning 'islands' According to them, there are 3 Bardo States and in all of them, you face yourself fair and square
CHIKHAI The First Bardo State In the first Bardo, the supreme peace is reached immediately after you 'die' You see a great white light Everything is bright and beautiful You float, light as a feather While all around you there appear to be soft billowy clouds on a warm spring day. The light begins to overpower your guilt-ridden ego CHONYID The Second Bardo State Your living consciousness view your physical remains on the earthly plane. You see your relatives and friends mourning your death. At this point some might try desperately - though in vain, reach their closest family and friends to comfort them. As you are now in Spirit Form - which is pure Energy, you experience rays of light and sounds, which may be too much to cope with, all at once. Some Spirits might become tired and frightened at this stage. But soon the Spirit Guides appear, speaking calmly to you. They discuss your Karma and Actions in the physical world - all of what must be accounted for now SIDPA The Third Bardo State You begin to realise that you can travel in the blink of an eye, arriving anywhere any time and passing through obstacles e.g houses,doors,roofs,rock - anything. The Spirit Guides warn however that you should not desire physical form, nor grieve for the loss of the physical body. You view your past deeds and decide what you wish to learn in your next incarnation. When this is done, you begin the seach for your next mother and father. As the time draws near for you to enter life, the spirit blasts a path leading into the womb. All is peace and quiet and a powerful sense of weighlessness and timelessness prevails. You have clarity of perception and no fear of death
EXPERIENCES IN THE BARDO STAGE In the state between lives you experience every deed you committed, but will also feel what it was like to be the people affected by those deeds You are cleansed of appetites, passions, wants and desires Your Guide is constantly near you, and the higher beings passing judgement on your deeds, drench the soul in a 'spiritual rain' of sympathy The time spent in the bardo varies from person to person, as much as the time spent on earth. Some spend a few months between lives, others stay for a few hundered years Time, as Einstein proved, is relative If you are tired when you arrive in the Bardo, you will take time to rest If you have been ill with a major disease, you will take time to be fully cured If you are not yet wise, you will hang about for a while and learn Basically it is up to you, but usually a person remains at least long enough to help or meet with loved ones on the other side |
